Sappho was born
in the 7th century BC.
Many of her beautiful poems,
and fragments,
have come down to us. She
often uses an
appealing verse form, which
particularly
attracts me. My
first 'short' poem uses
this form.
CHAINED
MELODY
Silent your
music now, stifled your singing
For the tune of your love has
faded unechoed,
Your instrument muffled,
cased in soft velvet;
And I locked outside.
What if your love-latch
unlocks through my fingers
Caressing your
tumblers, opening softly,
Brushing the strings that
are strung to make music;
Releasing your song?
MORON
Look
at that
happy moron,
He
doesn't give
a dam -
With
his Ritalin
and Prozac
Topped
with
Diazepam.
FRENCH GIRL
Long-stemmed
she
rose
Her
voice cut
glass
She's
my mistress
I'm
her class.
RING
In
Wagner's Ring
Power
is king.
With
the world
in tatters,
Nothung
matters.
